Kodomo no Kuni

梅雨の晴れ間の土曜日。
皆でこどもの国に来たよ。
The weather finally cleared up, so we went to Kodomo no Kuni

ポニーに乗って大はしゃぎの舞
でも１人では乗りたがらなかったヘタレ。。。
Mai really enjoyed the pony ride, but was too scared to do it alone.

凛は１人で。
Lin wasn't afraid, of course.

偶然にもリンという名のおじいちゃんポニーに。
And in one of those wierd coincidences, the pony was also named Lin.

凛が幼稚園の遠足で子供の国に行った時に一番楽しかったと言う
「笹薮迷路」
入口出口の表記も無くて本当に迷路なんてあるの？って不安なまま
入ると、やっぱりタダの笹薮。。。
途中本気で出口が分からなくなってあせった。。
Lin insited that we explore the bamboo maze, and we nearly got lost.

芝生ゴロゴロはお約束。

ふれあい動物園でモルモットをだっこ。
「柔らかくてかわいい〜」
Lin and Mai pet the guinea pigs.

逃げ回るうさぎもやっとだっこ出来た。
Lin finally chased down a rabbit to pet too.

去年まで全く動物に触れなかった舞も今年は全然大丈夫！
Last year, Mai was too scared to touch any of the animals, but she's gotten a little braver.

モルモットに餌をあげる。
She still feels a little safer on the other side of the fence, though.

ヤギさんにも。
この後柵の中に入った凛舞。
すると１匹のヤギが近づいて来て舞のワンピースのスカートに食いついた！
もしゃもしゃ舞のスカートを食べだすヤギに舞ちゃん大パニック！
ベンが引っ張って事なきを得たけど、スカートには穴が。。。
さすがの私も写真を撮る余裕はありませんでした。

Later they went into the goat pen, and one of the goats tried to eat Mai's sundress. Daddy pulled the dress from the goat's mouth, but it got some holes in it, and Mai was pretty freaked out.
(Unfortunately we were too busy to take pictures.)

水着持ってくれば良かったね。
Maybe we should have brought swimsuits.

次の日日曜日は父の日
凛舞からは「ダディーいつも遊んでくれてありがとう」って熱烈ちゅーが送られました。
何よりも嬉しそうなベンの顔。
The next morning was Father's Day.
It was raining too hard for Daddy and Lin to do a Father's Day bike ride, but Daddy got to spend the day with his girls, and that's good enough.

Hot Dogs

お隣の家の「サリー」を一緒に洗う舞
It was definitely a day to get out the hose, so Mai helped wash Sally, the dog next door.

サリーが体の泡を落とそうとブルブルして舞が「きゃー！」
Sally sprays Mai with suds.

そのお隣の「チョコ」も水浴び
、、、ど、どぶネズミ？
Choco, from one house down, also enjoys a cold shower.

凜は美容師デビューでダディーをすごいことに…
Lin tries her hand at cutting hair, using Daddy as a guinea pig.

2009/06/01

Undoukai (Field Day)

雨で２回延期が続いた小学校の運動会。
やっと出来ました。
隣近所の子供達全員が白組という奇跡が起きたので、こんな応援プレート
を作ってみました〜！
こんなの作ってるの家だけだったから目立つ目立つ！
Lin's elementary school field day got rained out twice in a row, but a day with usable weather finally came.
The school splits into the red team and the white team, but all of Lin's neighborhood friends ended up on the white team, so we reused Owen and Yuka's sign to root for the white team.
(As a paleface, I feel a little self-conscious with a "Go Whitey!" sign, but I try to adapt to the host culture.)

舞と大空がちょこんと座って応援。
Mai and Sora root for their big sisters.

と思ったらジュース飲んでたわ。。
but they were mostly busy drinking juice.

１年生の表現ダンス
とっても上手に出来ました。
Lin gets better at these choreographed dances every year.

楽しそうに踊ってて見てるこっちまで楽しくなってくるね。
This time she really seemed to be having fun with it.

皆で楽しいお弁当タイム♪
Lunch with the neighborhood families.

運動会の最終種目「リレー」
凛は白組の２番手、幼稚園の頃とは比べ物にならない程
キレイなフォームで走る凛がとってもかっこ良く、頼もしく見えた。
Lin got chosen to represent her class in the all-grade relay race.
We practiced for months, and Lin's running form improved amazingly from last year.

結果は２位
白組が１位２位を独占したリレーが功を奏して最後の最後で逆転勝ち！
全園児数が800人もいるマンモス幼稚園から全校生徒数250人ほどの小学校に来ての
初めての行事。
小じんまりしていて幼稚園とは全く別物だったけど、今までで一番楽しい運動会だった。
Her team came in second, with Hanano from next door passing the baton to Lin.
And the white team won the field day overall!
Even with all six grades, this elementary school is a lot smaller than Lin's kindergarten, but I think we're going to have a good time with it.

Birthday Party for Lin and Daddy

凛とベンの合同誕生日パーティーという名の飲み会開催！
We had another party using Lin and Daddy's birthday as an excuse.

由佳にもらったクッションでリス？
Lin got another long pillow from Yuka.

マイクとテジョンがくれたプレゼントの説明を受ける３人
Mike explains the presents he and Tejon brought to the kids.

ごーカズがくれた「シール製造メーカー」
何でもシールにしちゃう優れもの！
Lin and Mommy play with the amazing sticker maker Go and Kazu gave her.

舞も髪留めを貰ったよ♡
Mai got presents too, just because.

都合が付かなくて不参加のあみちゃんからもワインと子供達２人に
髪飾りが届いた。
ありがとう〜！
Ami-chan couldn't make it that day, but sent a bottle of wine and some cute barettes anyway.

バースディーケーキを皆でほうばる。

奈美ちゃんからはバトミントンセット。
優太は何故か「やっほー」を連発（手の位置違うけど。。）

来てくれた皆さんどうもありがとう！
Tejon helps Lin play with the Mario game Owen and Yuka got Lin for her DSi.

Lin's Birthday

グランマから誕生日プレゼントが届いたよ！
Lin got a birthday package from Grandma and Grandad!

これ今着た〜い！
These are cute!

出産予定日から４日遅れてベンと同じ誕生日に産まれてきた凛。
私が中学２年生の時に自分に女の子が産まれたら「凛」という漢字の「りん」
という名前を付けると決めていた。
凛は私の子供になるべくして来た子。
Lin was born four days after her due date, on Daddy's birthday.
Mommy had decided back in junior high that she wanted to name her first daughter Lin, and it suited her from day one.

出産予定日頃「凛」という名の中国茶が発売されていて、立ち会った私の家族全員が願掛けの意味でそのお茶を手にしていて看護士さん達に不気味がられたっけ。。。
A month or so before the birth, a new Chinese tea drink called "Lin" was released, and everyone brought bottles with them to the hospital for luck. The nurses must have thought we were weird.

産まれた瞬間から本当によく泣く子で、眠りが下手で夜泣きもひどく２歳の反抗期は初めての育児の私にとって地獄だった。
She's always been a crier, and wasn't always easy to handle, especially during the terrible twos, when she took forever to get to sleep and always woke up during the night.

そんな凛も７歳。小学校１年生だ。
今じゃベットに入って３分で眠りに入り、朝も７時にパキッと起きてくる寝起きの良さ！
でもまだまだやっぱり泣き虫だし、プチ思春期ばりの生意気な反抗も出て来た。
But now she's seven years old, and a first grader!
She falls asleep minutes after getting into bed, and wakes up full of energy at 7am sharp.
She still cries a lot, and gets more strongheaded as she gets smarter.

凛のしっかりしていて、明るく、真面目で、責任感が強く、自分の意志をはっきりと伝える性格は時としてお友達とのケンカに発展することもあるけど、大分相手の気持ちが考えられるようになってきた。
But she's reliable, cheerful, earnest, responsible, and able to communicate her feelings honestly. Sometimes the straightforwardness leads to arguments with friends, but she's gradually learning to keep others' feelings in mind too.
喜怒哀楽がはっきりしている凛が喜びを体全体で表してる姿を見ていると私まで本当に楽しい気持ちになってくる。
It's always fun to watch her, because she shows emotion clearly, and expresses joy with her whole body.

きっとあっという間に私達の手から離れて行ってしまう凛。
いつだって私に向いているその純粋な目が私からそれてしまうまでの間、一緒に楽しもうね。
She's growing up fast, and won't be with us forever. She won't always look to us the way she does now, so we have to enjoy this while we can.

凛７歳の誕生日おめでとう！
小さい頃からママっ子で、いつも私の気持ちを思ってくれる優しい凛。
あんまり早く成長しちゃわないでね。。。
Happy seventh birthday, Lin!
Don't grow up too fast.

Dinsey Sea

毎年恒例のバースデーディズニー。
今年の凛ベンの誕生日は初めてディズニーシーへ来たよ！
On Lin's annual birthday trip to the Rat Kingdom, we went to Disney Sea for the first time.

そこら中に水で遊べる場所があって楽しい。
There was water to play with everywhere.

素敵な港町の風景
The scenery is pretty amazing.

この乗り物に乗りながら写真を撮ってはいけないらしく、
真面目人間凛にこの後怒られました。。。
It turns out you're not allowed to take pictures while riding these quasi-victorian steampunk hovercrafty things, and Lin was angry at Mommy for breaking the rules.

ミッキーと一緒に撮りたかったけど、ぐいぐい行かない凛には無理。
隣に並んで！と私に言われ、恥ずかしがりやの凛はしぶしぶ並び盗撮風に撮影。
「マミーは他の人が撮ってるのにああゆうことしてよく恥ずかしくないね。。」
と言われました。
There were too many people lining up to take a picture with Mickey, so Mommy said to just get close so she could take a guerilla shot.
Lin couldn't believe Mommy wasn't embarrased to do something like this.

お城で遊んだよ。
Mai plays at the castle.

舞と２人ならぐいぐい行けるらしい。
With Daisy. Lin's more confident pushing her way close to the characters when Mai's with her.

見えにくいけど、ここも水がぴゅーぴゅー出てる。
Lin rushes through to avoid the squirting water.

わー！絵の中にベンと凛が入っちゃった！

凛と対照的に恐がりの舞は暗い所も早い乗り物も苦手。
乗る為に待って並んでいる場所が暗いだけでも恐がり
「舞は頑張れ〜って応援する人になる。。」とへたれ。
だから、明るい場所でゆっくり動くメリーゴーランドは大好きです。
Mai prefers quieter rides like this, and gets scared on darker or faster rides.

大きな夕日が幻想的でした。
Sunset over Arabia and a little bit of Central America.

最後のショー。
壮大で素晴らしかった。
The water show at the end was really pretty, but Mai was a little scared of the fireworks. Lin had a full day of fun and excitement.

2009/05/19

Noji-kun's house

本当はキャンプの予定だった週末、雨の予報が出ていたので
キャンセルして残念会を。。
We had to cancel our camping trip because of rain in the mountains, so instead we all got together near Noji-kun's house.

天気が悪くなってきたから野島家にお邪魔して酒盛り
凛舞の為にぬり絵と折り紙を用意していてくれたちーちゃんありがとう♡
When the weather got worse, we all went to Noji-kun's place, where Chi-chan gave Mai and Lin coloring books to play with.
Justin experimented with different lenses on his SLR and took lots of great pictures.

よっぱらい達のピアノ演奏会
Uncle Owen shows Lin a new song on the piano.

楽しい！でもキャンプ行きたかったな。
This is fun! But I wish we could have gone camping.

舞も〜！（３歳児舞の口癖）
Me too! (This is Mai's favorite phrase right now.)

2009/05/10

Mother's Day

母の日に凛舞が２人でマミーの朝ご飯を作ってベットまで持ってきてくれた。
Lin and Mai made Mommy breakfast in bed for Mother's Day.

可愛い内容の手紙付きで幸せな母の日の幕開け♡
They brought it up to the bedroom along with letters they had written to Mommy.
(Mai's "letter" was jsut a picture of what might have been Mommy.)

私と奈美ちゃんに自由な時間をくれる為にパパ２人が
子供を公園に連れ出してくれた。
Then Daddy and Yuta's papa took the kids to the park together to give the Mommies some quiet time.

暑い中遊びまくる３人

Lin and Mai push Yuta on the swing.

暑い中遊んだらアイスでしょ？
On a hot, sweaty day like this, ice cream is just the thing.

ちっちゃいの２人の口はもうどろどろ。。
It looks like the two little ones got more on their faces than in their bellies.

善美パパにテニスを教えてもらう凛。
Yuta's papa teaches Lin the basics of tennis.

ウーチーとノブが素敵な洋食レストランを始めたので、ご飯を食べに行ったよ。
雅勝君大きくなったね〜！
We went to eat at Woochee and Nobu's new restaurant and to play with Masakatsu.

くるくる回る変なうんていを出来るまで頑張る凛。
最後まで出来た時には手のひらの皮がべろっとむけてました。
These monkey bars swing around when you hang on them, so the timing is difficult.
Lin kept trying until she got it right, and ended up busting a blister again.

Schoolgirl

凛の小学校の入学式の日。
近所のカメラマンのママが入学祝いとして自宅で写真を撮ってくれた。
On Lin's first day of elementary school, one of the neighborhood moms, who used to be a professional photographer, offered to take shots of the new schoolkids using her old equipment.
